Pretty much wondering, if it's possible to make a Makerbot, without a kit (i.e. ordering all the parts/making the parts, etc)

I'm very interested in making a Makerbot, however they're all out of stock. (The price is very good, no problems there.)
Obviously certain parts need to be ordered via makerbot.com
My first question is about the casing, I can get acrylic laser cut, and would prefer that look. Are the files somewhere? or do I have to buy a kit?
Basically can I order everything needed to make a Makerbot on the site without buying a kit?

Here's what's included in the kit-

• The lasercut parts to assemble a CupCake CNC machine.
• 3 x NEMA 17 motors to drive your machine
• The nuts, bolts, and various hardware to assemble it.
• The belts and pulleys for it to move things around.
• All the bearings to make your machine nice and smooth.
• The highest quality precision ground shafts for the X and Y axes we could find.
• 3rd Generation Electronics to drive it better, faster, and stronger.
• A magnetized, detachable build platform to make removing your finished prints easier.
• A pinch-wheel Plastruder to make things in plastic with.
• A plastic sampler pack to get you started printing in 3D. It includes 1lb of ABS and 1lb of HDPE.

Certain things are not included in this kit, such as: a USB2TTL cable, ethernet cables to wire things up, a standard ATX power supply, a SMT soldering kit, etc. If you do not have those common building supplies around, we offer them for sale on this website, or you can purchase the Deluxe kit instead, which comes with literally everything you'll need to build the kit, down to tweezers and wrenches

If your in the US it should be very easy to get all the bits you need, Zack has even listed many of the part numbers you need here. I'm also making a diy makerbot and i think the only parts i need to buy direct from makerbot store are the electric kits. Like you i'm going all acrylic basically because i think it will look cool to see everything moving inside, otherwise i would of just gone for the kit to make it similar.

Someone on Ponoko has posted svg adapted files of the MakerBot. I have not tried to order it however. The price came to around $150 without shipping.
