I just finished building the motherboard, as well as USBtiny programmer. I went to go and burn the bootloader, and i keep getting the same error message.

avrdude: initialization failed, rc=-1
Double check connections and try again, or use -F to override
this check.
how do i fix this?

Ive assembled 2 boards and your soldering was probably less than "good enough". and you fried your board…..My advice would be to wait until they get the fully assembled boards in stock if your not to savvoy when it comes to smt soldering (thats what im doing) but i could be wrong……..it may be an AVR programer problem but the only thing is…if it was assembled wrong it would give you a different error message….

i don't think that it is a soldering issue. I am getting power to the board, as well as the green power light is lighting up

Couple of things. When trying to burn the bootloader, make sure that its definately trying to communicate by disconnecting the board from the TinyUSB. It would give a different error message.

When you click 'Burn the bootloader' THEN press the reset button. Also, double check the pin out connections and make sure they match up. (I.e. RX goes to RX, TXD goes to TXD etc.)

If that fails, try it all with power to the board (Connect the PSU-ON to ground) and try all the above steps. You will know when it works, as the red debug light will go flash-flash-flash-pause-flash. Or similar, not quite sure now!)

as well as i didn;t have to hack my power supply. i pluged it into the board, with the programmer in, and got power. but never got the debug light to blink

If memory serves, that's how mine worked as well.
MB board debug light never blinked after bootloader burn.
The extruded board debug light did blink after burn, so I suspect it's
a docs copy'n'paste bug rather than broken board issue.

do i need to apply power to the extruder board to burn the boot loader, because as i mentioned earler i need to have the programmer plugged in to be able to turn the motherboard on

Nope. Programming power is provided by the ISP device.

Supposed to be. I have an Atmel AVR Programmer that doesnt supply power. Hence the hacked PSU switch!
