I am looking into buying a MakerBot and I saw that the full kits will not be able to be shipped till September.

I have a month till I go back to my college and I was hoping to get one. I see that parts kits and such are available and I am wondering what the difference is between buying the basic (or deluxe) kit versus going through the store pages and buying all the kits that make up the basic kit?

One of the main differences you'll have to face is that the Gen 3 Electronics kit sold in the store doesn't come with fully assembled boards, so you'll have to SMT solder everything yourself. And it's currently out of stock.
To be honest, I would recommend having your MakerBot shipped to your school, and assembling it there! That way you won't have to go through all the trouble of buying everything you need separately and soldering all the electronics yourself.

The motherboard and extruder are now in the store as fully assembled boards.

I am in the process of building a makerbot from 'scratch' at the moment, if i hadn't wanted to modify the design i would of gone for the basic kit, nearly everything you in one kit is so much easier than ordering one kit then waiting for another to come in stock, and paying more shipping costs etc. Also i have been waiting a month for part from sdp-si for the drive system

I also think that the full kits get priority over the seperate parts, ie they will make all the part needed for the full kits then the 'spare' kits are put in the store to buy seperately.

If you read the blog or twitter your see they are flat out trying to enough parts made, so if you want to guaranty getting all parts close to when you go back i would get your order in!!
