I have been trying to update the plastruder from 1.8 to the new 2 but it keeps failing. the unit works fine otherwise. i have tried every variation of pushing the reset button and the update button. What is the deal here? what is the sequence it is looking for?
Just to make sure — you have the wire hooked directly to the extruder controller, right? Some people have tried with it hooked to the motherboard. That won't work.
Shorting out the autoreset pad on the motherboard while pressing the update button seems to help make the firmware upgrade seamless. :) I wouldn't want to keep it jumpered, though, as unplugging the serial cable could make the bot reset. (I might eventually get a 2 pin jumper thing so I can put a real jumper on it.)
Also, since the firmware update is listed on this page, the default settings (or other suggested settings or links to them) should be listed here, especially for thermistor, reversal parameters, and PID controller. I notice that the thermistor settings are already listed at adjusting-the-thermistor-settings.
I am not sure if I need to, but I am having problems with the plastruder extruding anything so I wanted to update it from the 2.2 it came with to the new 2.3 release 1.
I have tried every orientation I can think of:
-plugging the usb into the extruder directly (not attached to the main mobo at all) —my usb gives the extruder mobo power
-plugging the usb into the extruder directly (with ethernet connected to mobo)
plugging the usb into the extruder directly (with ethernet connected to mobo, but mobo powered off)
-and even plugging the usb into the mobo with the ethernet
I get to the upload step, and for each one i try
- to time press them exactly at the same time
- to press mobo reset before "upload" and vice versa
Nothing seems to take. Also, on each failed attempt, i notice i have to upgrade the firmware on the main mobo itself to get rid of the flashing debug light
Do you know how to upload the firmware for the Motherboard.
The usb connects to the mother board as well. YOu would cannect the usb to the motherboard to run relicatorg and test the extruder, plus to upload the firmware for the MotherBoard.
This is something I done, thats why I ask.
It can be that the firmware is already installed, by one of your previous attemps.
I had successfully uploaded. Got the message upload successfull (or something like that). Tried to test the extruder, but replicatorg would not connect.
So, after many times trying, decided to upload the firmware again. What I got was the same message as you had, and I got when trying to upload the first time.
It did not indecate firmware had already been installed.
So, i kept trying to upload the firmware.
It did not work untill, the cable was connected to the motherboard.
Getting the timing right for updating the plastruder firmware is tricky. See Extruder Board Reset Button Timing on the Tips and Tricks page for the sequence that has worked for me and a few others.
has something changed in the upload process for 2.4? i've never had as much trouble updating the firmware as I have on this update, I follow the Reset Timing, but I notice the board doesnt actually turn off any more when i hit reset, any ideas?
nevermind…somehow I got it working, no idea how..
When I attempt to update the extruder firmware from v2.3 to v2.5 the machine disconnects as soon as I click the serial port to use and, after I click "upload," I get the "firmware update did not succeed" error message. The same thing happened when I attempted to update to v2.4 for mk5 with relays.
I was able to successfully update the motherboard firmware, but can't update the extruder.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
