Makerbot Industries Is On A Mission To Revolutionize Personal Manufacturing

What is MakerBot Industries.

MakerBot Industries is a company dedicated to putting cutting edge manufacturing tools on the desktops of every creative person in the world. The company formed in January 2009, launched it's prototype, the MakerBot Cupcake CNC at SXSW in March 2009, and started shipping machines in April 2009.

The MakerBot team got to market quickly because they iterate fast and focus on using accessible parts available off the shelf and by using a lasercutter to make new versions of machines in minutes.

Their first product, the MakerBot Industries Cupcake CNC is an affordable open source 3D printer that you can buy as a kit. You use the kit to make your own MakerBot and then it makes things for you.

The MakerBot builds 3D objects by building up layers of plastic to create almost anything you can imagine. The build platform allows you to build objects that are 100mm x 100mm x 130mm which is about the size of two big cupcakes on top of each other. Mmmmm.

MakerBot prints with ABS, HDPE, or PLA plastic. It's your own little factory!
